Got some questions: 1) I uploaded some photos manually (click/drag to Google Photos in my browser [GPhotos for short]), then loaded the uploader program on to our media server (pointing at the photos folder only). I there are now some duplicate photos (the ones I manually uploaded). How do I delete the dupes without it wanting to re-load them? Do I just select one of the dupes and delete and see if it returns?
Google also seems to have a head start on Apple when it comes to using machine learning; at the very least, the company has been quite vocal about how much it’s investing in its learning systems, while Apple’s been quieter on that front. However, I’m reluctant to claim that Google is destroying Apple in this area. I just did some random spot checks on my photo library in both Google Photos and Apple’s Photos app: Both of them produce some impressive finds as well as some laughable misfires. I joined Google Photos for unlimited photo storage on all of my Mac devices, iMac computer, iPhone and iPod Touch. It works flawlessly. It would be nice to know I was storing the original quality but I don’t need another monthly bill besides Google Drive. It’s awesome the way they rotate some of the photos for you or give you that option. I wish they would do more in terms of the facial recognition so that you can correctly date some of your photographs were the dates were stripped in the uploading process which for me was a bit of a hellish experience because it crashed while uploading. I got past all that and everything I own is in my Google library I just don’t have them sorted properly. I’m hoping this will be done automatically in the future using the facial recognition technology otherwise I have to spend years fixing my library. Another suggestion would be if they would show you your duplicates which are close to exact duplicates so that you can delete them on your own. Sometimes it appears to be refusing duplicates but it’s hard to tell exactly what Google is doing behind the scenes occasionally I’ll see a duplicate missing other times I find odd photos in my trash.

When it comes to creating image-related projects, Apple Photos excels at print stuff such as books, cards, and calendars—you can’t make any of that with Google Photos. Movies can be made in both apps by combining stills and video, and you can customize your work by picking a soundtrack and theme, though only Apple Photos lets you add captions. On the other hand, Google Photos can create stuff that Apple Photos can’t such as animations and collages, it can stitch panoramas, and combine images and videos into linear, scrollable stories complete with a little map. Additionally, a standalone PhotoScan app for iOS allows you to digitize your old physical prints with just your phone’s camera. Google’s goal is to certainly learn more about you to better target ads, but it’s not like employees at Google can browse your entire library at will. Nevertheless, the perception does persist for some people. Which is the best? One thing I haven’t mentioned yet is Apple’s Memories section vs Google’s Assistant section. Both are really good, but are doing different things. I do love how the Memories section is available on Apple TV, but Google Photos makes some really great animations.

The Google account that you tell PHotos to use for backup must be the same one you're using to log in with your browser. When you have multiple Google accounts it is VERY easy to get messed up.
