This was one of the original email settings for bellsouth.net, back when it was a Southeastern regional company and still worth something. I can’t guarantee that these settings will work for you. I hope that they will. If not, contact AT&T tech support, and keep asking to be elevated to the next tier of support. Outlook.com keeps rejecting change when I try to correct and save. This problem only affects incoming mail on bellsouth.net account which is main email address. Outlook list the bellsouth.net account as an alias but I believe it was set up as linked account. Bellsouth, net account used as Microsoft Account Id say it can receive and send but as that has different password it is not retrieving my email. When Microsoft Account was opened bellsouth.net address and yahoo, com password was used to divert mail to Microsoft Servers.

My folders don't show up and neither does spam folder but at least I can see my basic mail. 2016-07-30 17:29:54 • Finally! I missed the part about user = full email address.
Maybe Apple will pick up a cell service of their own! Now that would be good!

2016-10-14 19:26:05 • Was getting outdated certificate message with old setup. This fix corrected the problem. 2016-09-20 21:19:58 • Update. It seems to have deleted the mail I downloaded from the server so I cannot access it on my phone! It wont let me modify my settings either, blanks out that option.
Please refer to the article below on how to add your account: Kindly let us know the results. Your cooperation and understanding is highly appreciated. I am having the same problem trying to connect Outlook.com to my @bellsouuth.net account.
Create a new email in AT&T webmail addressed to your email address. Send the email. You should receive the email. You may need to repeat this webmail send email procedure a few times, but it should work, sooner or later. Although I got my email accounts to receive, I could never get the email account password to work for the SMTP server. I would always get a rejected password message, regardless how I tried to manipulate the settings. The following is what finally worked after finally getting connected to a tech at Yahoo!
I recently upgraded to a Mac Pro. After three weeks of tech support ****, I finally found a Yahoo! Tech that could help with the final piece of the puzzle.
I'm going to GMAIL as soon as I can and dropping all Bellsouth/ATT services that I can. My iPhone unfortunately will still be with them until a better option comes around. Maybe Apple will pick up a cell service of their own!
Once your Outlook is open, follow these steps. • Select File, and then Account Settings. • Select the email account to update. • In Internet Email Settings verify you have POP3 or IMAP selected, and your User Name and Password are correct. • For POP 3 accounts, enter inbound.att.net for your Incoming mail server and outbound.att.net for Outgoing mail server.
For example, if your email provider is example.com, the outgoing mail server is likely smtp.example.com. Override default port To be able to edit the port number that follows the server address, select this check box. Use SSL to connect (recommended) Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is an encryption technology that helps improve the security of the account. More Options Click the More Options button to enter authentication for the outgoing server, or to set an unqualified domain.
• Select OK, and then select the Advanced tab. Verify the SSL checkbox is selected and the Authentication field is set for Password. Enter the following: • For POP accounts, enter 995 in the Port field. • For IMAP accounts, enter 993 in the Port field.
Who knew what she was doing. Sending Email The webpage above, which has the email settings for inbound email, also has the outbound settings. For some people, those settings will work. For me, they did not. Here they are just in case they do work for you: • outbound.att.net using port 465 with SSL checked and authentication set to password, or • smtp.att.yahoo.com using port 465 with SSL checked and authentication set to password.
• Select Preferences. • On the Account Information tab, verify you have POP3 or IMAP selected, and your User Name and Password are correct. • For POP accounts, enter inbound.att.net for the Incoming Mail Server and outbound.att.net for the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP). • For IMAP accounts, enter imap.mail.att.net for the Incoming Mail Server, and smtp.mail.att.net for the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP). • From the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop-down, select Edit SMTP Server List. Verify the following.
Here's the step by step I went through to get email settings for inbound and outbound email using @bellsouth.net email accounts and the Mail app (although at one point I got the same behavior with Microsoft Office 2011 Outlook). Receiving Email In order to receive email from the Yahoo! Server, you need to change your email password on your Mac Mail client and also change it on AT&T's email support site. I found the best way to do this was to use the forgot password link, because the manage email link on the Your Account page actually sends you to view email not manage it (after notifying AT&T of this several times with no response, I finally gave up). AT&T Forgot Password link: POP Email settings for Bellsouth.net should be: • inbound.att.net using port 995 with SSL checked and authentication set to password, or • pop.att.yahoo.com using port 995 with SSL checked and authentication set to password. • User ID should be formatted These email settings are subject to change with no notice.
• The Server Name is outbound.att.net or smtp.mail.att.net. • Use default ports (25, 265, 587) is selected. • Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is selected.

Thank you for your help, although I have to admit that this kind of response is useless. There have been many threads about this and all the responses are useless. Please stop linking to such basic instructions that we have turned upside down and tried every which way. Like I said, loading my Yahoo Small Business through POP on Gmail and Zoho and my Android devices works just fine and very easily. So I know what I'm doing and I know I have my server, port, SSL option, username and password settings all correct. The problem is clearly on your end. Now can your team please give some useful help?
Aftera great deal of trial and error, reading internet posts, and reviewing outlook and Live Mail settings this is what worked on my IPad: Undet Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars (of course) Incoming Host Name: pop.att.yahoo.com User Name: UserName @bellsouth.net Password: +your e-mail account password+ Outgoing SMTP: mail.bellsouth.net User NAme; leave blank or optional Password: Leave blank or optional SSL:OFF Server Port 25 Under Advanved setting back at top level for Incoming server SSL: ON Server Port 995 Hope that helps others out there. This does not work on mine. Bellsouth is awful. They've sold out to Yahoo and I've always hated Yahoo. I've never wanted to be associated with this terrible company as well. It's bad business to sell out your services to other providers because they 'specialize' in that service. It always results in poor customer service.
• Enter your email address, password and user name. • Select IMAP for type • Incoming server: imap.mail.yahoo.com / Either 993 (ssl) or 143 (very infrequently 585 (ssl)) • Outgoing server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com / Either 25 or 465 (ssl) (very infrequently 2525) • Click Add Account • Click More Options.
When setting up manually, you’ll need additional information about your account, for instance the account type and addresses of mail servers. Outlook supports both POP and IMAP accounts. To learn more about each account type, see.
